Remote Monitoring
There are five million CCTV cameras in the UK - that's roughly one camera for every 12 people. Surveillance at that level should lead to a reduction in crime. It doesn't because most of those cameras are unmonitored. People only view the footage retrospectively, when it's too late, after the damage has been done.
High-speed internet changes all that. Thousands of CCTV cameras can now be monitored remotely and simultaneously by trained security professionals working in pleasant and stimulating environments and supported by sophisticated software. The era of the lone (and expensive) onsite security guard dozing in front of a bank of flickering screens is over.
Straightforward connections, automated alarms, human responses
Connecting a CCTV installation to the internet isn't difficult. All you need is a transmission box, a broadband connection, and a bit of know-how. If any installer is unsure of the technology, we'd be happy to help.
Your internet connection then routes the CCTV images over the web to our servers. The connection can be live at all times or - in the most common scenario - automatically switched on at the end of the working day.
Our software then monitors activity. As soon as an alarm (heat or motion sensor, door or window contact etc) is activated on your site, the software responds by routing the incident to the screen of one of our security professionals. From now on we monitor activity manually. We can pan and zoom cameras, switch cameras for a better view, and rerun recent footage. Usually it's a false alarm - harmless drunks who have lost their
way or a fox sniffing round the bins.
But if the incident is more serious, we react immediately. We call the police; we call you (if that's what you want); and we communicate with the intruders by loudspeaker. Because we're describing real events as they take place on the ground, the police will react. If it was just a static alarm signal without any visual verification, they probably wouldn't bother.
Nine times out of ten our loudspeaker warning is enough to drive the intruders away.
See the effectiveness of remote monitoring for yourself
Everything we do is fully transparent. You can log on at any time to see what's going on at your premises and at our monitoring station, or you can review the previous night's activity at your desk the following morning. You can rerun the video footage and you can check our logs to see what we did and when.
Combining the video record with our statistical output also shows you hidden patterns in your security incidents. Are night-shift staff propping open fire doors? Is there a particular time of night favoured by intruders? And what is their preferred route into your site?
This is the kind of data that helps you improve the physical security at your premises. The more you know about your site and its weak spots, the better prepared you'll be.
